Chasing the Stars

It’s easy to forget what a great writer Malorie Blackman is! Her latest novel for older teens is a thrilling page turner set in outer-space which echoes themes from Shakespeare’s Othello; love, mistrust and betrayal.

Vee and her twin brother Aidan are heading alone back to Earth, the sole survivors of a virus which has wiped out the rest of their crew, including their parents. When Vee risks her life to rescue a community under attack, she falls deeply in love with Nathan, one of the survivors. But not everyone is happy with their new found romance. Surrounded by rumours, deception and murder, is it possible for love to find a way?

Shortlisted for this year’s YA Book Prize and longlisted for the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize 2016, Chasing the Stars is reminiscent of Blackman’s Noughts and Crosses trilogy. The cleverly written plot contains plenty of twist and turns which will keep you guessing. The book ends on a great cliff hanger, possibly leaving room for a sequel. Can’t wait….Pauline
