Love To Read

If it’s been a while since you got stuck into a really good read you might like to pick up the book chosen by Knowsley Libraries for BBC Merseyside’s ‘Book of the Month’.

As part of the BBC’s national Love to Read campaign Knowsley Libraries have chosen “Girl on a Plane” by Miriam Moss for Radio Merseyside’s October read.

Sean Styles previewed the book on his Friday morning show (28 October) with an interview with Kate Swift from Knowsley School Library Service on why you’ll want to read it:

“It’s the fictionalised account of the author’s real life experience of being hijacked on a plane by a Palestinian terrorist group in the 1970s when she was 15. While harrowing from that point of view the people and other children she meets on the plane are really interesting and there’s plenty of humour in their interactions.

“Although this is a young adult fiction anyone will enjoy the book, teenagers and adults alike. It’s amazing, it really is.”

If you’d like to read the book it is available to borrow from your local Knowsley library or, once you’re a registered library member you can also download the e-books to your tablet, smartphone or e-reader without even visiting a library. The book is also available to schools via the School Library Service e-platform https://knowsleysls.wheelers.co/

Cllr Eddie Connor, Cabinet Member for Public Health, Wellbeing and Customer Services, said:

“Reading is a great way to relax and unwind and Kate has certainly chosen a great page turner for us all to enjoy. It’s never been easier to borrow a book from Knowsley’s libraries with our free downloadable e-books, mobile library or copies to borrow from your local branch.”
