Author Events

We were delighted to host some fabulous author events for children this spring, both in schools and in the public library. In March we had a visit from the lovely Robin Stevens, author of the Murder Most Unladylike series. Robin talked to 180 children at Malvern Primary school about A Spoonful of Murder, her highly anticipated sixth mystery in the series. Robin shared the inspiration behind her detective duo, Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong and explained why she is so fascinated by murder mysteries. The children also had the opportunity to buy some of Robin’s books and have them signed on the day. The event was sponsored by Authors Aloud UK.

“Robin was fun and friendly. She is the person who inspired me to become an author. I love Robin Stevens!” Pupil from Malvern Primary

In April, we hosted a visit from the amazing illustrator/author Kate Pankhurst at Huyton Library. Kate talked about what inspired her latest book Fantastically Great Women who made History and the children got the chance to dress up as some of the famous (and not so famous) women from her book. They also had an opportunity to sketch their own suffragette along with Kate, with some fabulous results. Seventy two children from St. Anne’s Catholic Primary, Mosscroft Primary and Malvern Primary attended the event which was part of the Read Regional campaign.

“Thank you for a very enjoyable afternoon. My class loved every minute.” Laura Hodgkiss, St. Anne’s Primary.

Periodically the Library Service is invited to bid for free author events for children. After the success of the Robin Stevens and Kate Pankhurst visits we are keen to continue with a programme of events for Knowsley schools. If your school would be interested in hosting a future event, please let us know so we can add you to our mailing list . Contact Gerry Williams at Gerry.williams@knowsley.gov.uk
