Norah’s Ark by Victoria Williamson

This is a powerful novel covering emotive and important issues such as homelessness, illness and bullying. We meet Norah who lives in temporary accommodation with her Dad, relying on foodbanks to see them through. Norah has a love for animals, but her living conditions make it difficult to have any pets. She does however have a pet spider she once rescued! Norah meets Adam who, from Norah’s perspective, seems like a privileged boy in a big house with everything he could ever want. He on the other hand longs for Norah’s freedom as he is stuck inside due to recovering from serious. Both Norah and Adam are wrong about one another but it takes some time for them both to realise.

A really poignant story that addresses real life issues that many children and families face. Definitely add this one to your list.
